EXP03 Final Submission

The idea behind my bridge architecture is that the two labs on the bridge become the elevator to form a table and meeting space on the valley floor.

When Angela Merkel and Miranda Kerr are in their respective spaces on the bridge, they are unable to meet or interact, and must use their elevators to move to the valley floor in order to meet.

The meeting space/dining table formed when the two labs come together on the valley floor.

Using the idea of moving architecture, I wanted the bridge to be completely removed when the elevators are activated. This was achieved by creating a drawbridge out of the remaining bridge when the elevators are activated. This means that, from the valley floor, the bridge is unable to be seen, and when on the bridge, it is whole and complete.

The view of the bridge (or lack thereof) from the valley floor.

As is the case with many great women, she has already reinvented herself several times over. Her lonely, stubborn and ultimately victorious campaign, fought tirelessly for all great women. The sky seems to be the limit for this reunified and powerful woman, bringing hope and inspiration to millions.

Lower Space - Darwin's Lab where he is able to 'grind out' conclusions to his problems while overlooking the water and land that surrounds him.

Meeting Space - Where Hawking and Darwin are able to exchange their ideas. Hawking arrives from above on a ramp which extends out over Darwin's lab, Darwin arrives on a ramp which provides him with an unobstructed view out to the surrounding environment.
Upper Space - Hawking's Lab where he is able to 'grind out' his 'beautiful' conclusions to some of the most challenging problems in the field of theoretical physics.

Black Box reflection

Final Drawing 2, Project 1, Watercolour

This watercolour shows how the contrast between different shapes and shades create unique spaces. The dark shaded areas of the work clearly stand out from the light areas, creating a sense of depth in the two-dimensional work. This is similar to the way in which light would penetrate my design, to create a distinct light area and a dark area which reflects the ideas of the inhabitants.
Darwin's space, which is largely open to its surroundings, provides the inhabitant with an almost uninterrupted view of its surrounds and allows much light to penetrate. This reflects Darwin's desire to make observations of that which surrounds him.
Hawking's space, on the other hand is largely closed to its surroundings and allows little light to penetrate the halls which make up the work space. This reflects the ideas of Hawking, which are largely theoretical conclusions to unobservable phenomena, thus requiring much concentration with little outside distraction.

EXP 2 - Quotes from three clients

"I enjoy having the freedom to explore new ideas and learn more and more about renewable energy every day. Working alongside other passionate and very clever researchers is also great fun!"
-Nicole Kuepper [1]

"Most sets of values would give rise to universes that, although they might be very beautiful, would contain no one able to wonder at their beauty."
-Stephen Hawking [2]

“I am turned into a sort of machine for observing facts and grinding out conclusions.”

YouTube video relating to stairs in my scheme

This is the staircase in the Apple store in 5th Ave., NY. This spiral staircase is similar to the staircase in my scheme which connects the gallery space to the upper, Piccinini studio. In this case, an elevator is housed within the spiral staircase, whereas in my scheme the staircase would house the works of both artists.
